Sustainability

Sustainability is the guiding principle of Lorenz Kunststofftechnik's business strategy and thus the core of our entrepreneurial activities. This claim also characterizes the cooperation with our suppliers. We can only achieve the goal of a sustainable supply chain together with our business partners, with whom we work closely. For this reason, Lorenz Kunststofftechnik requires its direct suppliers to comply with the Code of Conduct, to integrate it into their upstream value chains and to monitor compliance. The Code of Conduct is derived from the human rights, environmental protection and business ethics requirements that Lorenz Kunststofftechnik GmbH applies in its own business activities. It contains minimum requirements as a contractually binding prerequisite for business relationships with our suppliers. We encourage our suppliers to go beyond the minimum requirements and to align themselves with our supplementary expectations. Lorenz Kunststofftechnik GmbH maintains a strong partnership with its suppliers. Only together with our supplier partners can we achieve our ambitious goals for an emission-free future.

Keep our planet livable

Dealing with climate change is one of the greatest challenges in human history. In this change towards more sustainability, it is therefore best to no longer discuss the "whether", but the "how". In doing so, we should not think first of problems, bans or sacrifices, but of the opportunity to keep our planet liveable and promote social progress and prosperity.

Investment

With this in mind, we are driving our transformation forward at full speed. With the intrinsic motivation "Think global, act local", we set the course towards CO₂ neutrality for our entire company in 2013. Last year, we decided to once again significantly accelerate our path towards an emission-free and digitally driven future. We will continue to invest heavily in this until 2035 and beyond.

Only one way - CO₂-neutral

We want our products to be C02-neutral by the end of this decade, market conditions permitting. With our alternative fillers and fibers, as well as bio-resins, we have launched several sustainable products on the market in recent years. And our sustainable thermoset product offensive continues - across all our brands.

We are encouraged by the strong positive feedback from our customers, which is also reflected in our figures: in 2021, we sold almost twice as many sustainable products as in the previous year.

However, promoting sustainability is not just about products. It is also about the big picture. For example, in order to further promote the spread of sustainable thermosets such as BMC/SMC/CIC, we also need to accelerate the expansion of plants into green infrastructure - a very challenging task.

Our contribution

We are also doing our bit: Lorenz Kunststofftechnik GmbH, for example, has had an efficient recycling process for recycling SMC/BMC/CIC since the 1990s: the only company in the world with such an in-house infrastructure. At the same time, we are increasingly using our own facilities to generate sustainable electricity from combined heat and power plants and only purchase electricity that is more than 65% declared as sustainable.

A lot can be achieved when we pull together across company and industry boundaries. That's why we stay on the ball in everything we do and look at what we can use locally to become global. For example, our Lobox made of thermoset SMC saves space during transportation, can be stacked on top of each other and is designed for our customers to transport back.

It is part of our corporate responsibility to position ourselves structurally in the best possible way for the future. In future, Lorenz Kunststofftechnik GmbH will focus even more strongly on its respective customers and suppliers and their technological requirements and further accelerate the change towards sustainability.
